I read all my comments and appreciate every last one, even if I don't respond to all of them.
I am a 22-year-old fantasy illustrator who hails from the woods of southwestern Ohio, and I take my joy from being able to create new worlds and stories, telling of adventures in distant worlds and bringing unicorns and dragons to glittering life. I am drawn not only to the beautiful and the ethereal, but also to the dark, creepy, subtle, and surreal. I strive to create atmosphere in my work that moves people, that creates feelings ranging from discomfort or fear, mystery and adventure, to homeliness and peace. I love images that are both unsettling and comforting at the same time. I want to create a world in my work that the viewer can enter and engage in, a personal journey in each image.
I paint primarily with gouache -- a medium whose quick-drying and forgiving nature suits my style and patience. My favorite thing to do, however, is to sketch and sketch and sketch again, whether with pencil or pens, whether from imagination or from life or from photo reference. I can get lost in lines for hours.
I have a long way to go to achieve my artistic goals, but as long as I have a direction to move in, I will journey on.
I happen to be a goth that takes particular joy in unicorns and flowers, but I keep plenty of axes and skulls around to balance that out. I am also an avid gardener, ever surrounded by my ward of plants that I dote over -- I am particularly likely to be seen around roses, daisies, snapdragons, and chilis. Among my other interests are fitness, hiking, writing, reading, photography, design, and landscaping.
Goals of mine include building my own tiny home, going on adventures and climbing mountains around the world, becoming a successful artist, and sculpting my body into a thing of beauty and power. I am a work in progress: currently overcoming a history of crippling anxiety, fighting to make a place for myself in the world, and building up my confidence brick by brick.
Some personal notes: I am a trans person and a demiromantic asexual. I identify as androgynous but prefer the pronouns he/him/his; they/them/their is also acceptable.
I am grateful for any critique or advice anyone has to offer towards any of my work!
